The Salzburg Residenz (or Archbishop’s Residence) was commissioned by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau, and is a masterpiece of architecture found in Salzburg’s Old Town (Altstadt). Mozart himself used to perform in the Residenz to the full enjoyment of all who attended. Salzburg Cathedral is a classic example of Baroque architecture, and one might imagine what it might be like to spend Christmas Eve here in the warmth and elegancy of the Cathedral as Silent Night (Stille Nacht) soars to the heavens.
