If you have just one day to explore one village along Germany’s Romantic Road, Rudy suggests Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of the country’s best-preserved medieval-walled towns, and one of the most interesting. The Hotel Eisenhut (The Iron Helmet) is a great place to stay while in town, and was built by conjoining for medieval houses. There is much to discover here, including Rothenburg Town Hall, St. Jacob’s Church, the town’s many gates, and the beautiful Burggarten.
One of California’s original twenty-seven counties, El Dorado is the undisputed home of the Gold Rush, and, possibly the home of the American vineyard too, with vines dating back to 1849.
